When placing valves into a project i can not get it to keep a flange on the valve is there some way after placing the flange onto the valve and pulling the pipe to it for it to keep that flange.

Yep. Make a Valve family with built in flanges that you can turn on and off. The Flange system in revit sucks.

    1. Parameter in the valve family that gives the number of flanges that are on, so you can total up the quantity.
    or
    2. Shared families for Flanges in the valve family, a bit more complicated to make but has the advantage of being able to schedule all the flanges separately with other info such as type, size etc. Link a parameter to the description of the host valve so you can also see what valve it is attached to in the schedule.
