    Random Crash

This is not my day. First my Revit crashes and I lost 1.5 hrs of work.

Then I come here to post my frustration and I hit backspace and the window goes back to the thread list. Post is gone.

Anyhow, I lost a bunch of detail work. Is there any way I can recover it?

    I got no error message.

I was zooming and panning then suddenly *poof*.

I can see a .slog file date/time stamped 5 hours ago, an eperms.dat file stamped 20 min ago.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks...

Sorry, not good...waiting 1.5 hours between saves. No save no backup to rely on unfortunately... Save...save often

Why I just want to know - aside from saving often - what the problem is. Why does Revit like to crash?

I've been using Revit for 6 years. I know it likes to crash.

Usually I only lose 20-40 minutes of work. And that's not insignificant. A lot happens in 15 minutes.

There's got to be a recovery technique.

Anyways, I'm not in the mood to get back into more modeling tonight. Cheers...

What version (version number, I'm assuming MEP because you're in this forum) are you using?

What sort of computer specs are you dealing with? Revit hasn't crashed on me in quite a long time. I realize that doesn't make you feel any better but it should not normally crash.

Revit is vulnerable to the lack of memory and to video card/driver incompatibility. If you are getting a vanishing act where Revit was there one second and gone the next that suggests a memory issue (to me at least). Once it runs out...it's out... Any error messages or warnings about running low on virtual memory?

Some years ago I noticed, when I was using Revit 2013, that it seemed to be prone to crashing when I used the middle mouse button and Shift key to spin a 3D view. When I updated the mouse driver and video drivers that problem stopped happening.

Also what operating system are you using? Does it have all its shots? When Autodesk patches their software they claim they are also taking into account things that have changed in the Operating Systems it supports. This means applying patches to Revit on a PC that is wildly out of sync with its OS updates can make it even less stable.

If you are using an older release of Revit...press to get your project upgraded. It might be inconvenient but everyone on the project will benefit because the 2015/2016 releases have improved performance dramatically...and then there are all the other little things that have come along too.

I've started noting the crashes of software on my Outlook Calendar. No Revit crashes yet this year. 4 ACA crashes.

I'm on Revit 2014. All updates installed, and yes it's the old vanishing act. Thanks for the tip.

My computer in short - the best I've ever had - Dell Precision M-4700.

    I remember the 2013 crashes.
