Cap Family to Generate Fixture Units

I'm trying to create a cap family that can generate fixture units for flow tracking in our projects. My intended workflow is:
Draw pipe to connection point (say a future tenant connection).
    Cap open ends.
Input fixture units in the cap family.

I've found that the cap family just won't do it, but I can make it happen with most any other fitting type (which wrecks the nice workflow).
I can make it work with flow, but we've just about finished up setting all of our calculation and annotative families to point at fixture units...and I don't like the gpm unit conversion I have to do to track gas MBH or roof area.

Let me know if you've found a way past this.
    Thanks!

I have managed to do this using an end cap.
Change the Category to Plumbing Fixture (You will have to place them. it doesnt work with 'cap open ends').
The CWFU, HWFU and WWFU parameters should appear because it is now a plumbing family.
Change the connector to the Fixture Units type.
Link the fixture units parameter on the connector to one of the WFU parameters.
You could try making your own fixture unit parameters and keeping it as a Fitting, but Im not sure that will work.

Yup, that's kinda what I figured. We have company shared parameters so we do have alternatively-defined fixture units already, and it will populate with anything...except a cap. I think I'll end up making it work, it'll just forever annoy me that it's a Union or something other than a cap. Oh well.

Have you had luck populating vent fixture units with the OOTB fixture unit parameters? We use a union fitting to populate vent fixture units, though it makes sense there because it's connected on both sides.
