    Family Hitbox Too Large

When I loaded a air valve family I created into a project to test it out I've noticed that the families "hitbox" is too large. It makes it difficult to select elements around the object. I don't know what other term to use other than hitbox. By that I mean the area on the screen where clicking will select the family. It extends beyond the extents of the object itself. I'm wondering if this may be due to clearances that can be hidden.

If there is a better term in Revit related to this problem please let me know because I could not find anything online with the terms I've used.

Edit the family and take a look at it. I've had families behave like that which have either large hidden elements, but also stray reference plans/lines that are away from the modeled element. Check the reference planes first. However I know I did have to modify a fire extinguisher family that had circles representing their coverage area so that when the coverage wasn't visible it was a very small circle.

    Thanks jmk,

It was weak references. Can't believe I was so careless. Set them to not a reference and the family is working much better.

    Great!
I had one where it was a reference plane that was 20' away from the origin of a part that was then nested into the family - that took awhile to track down!
