It used to be that a nested family with a connector allowed the creation of a system, but not the connection of pipes, duct, conduit... Which makes the family partially useless. At least that was the situation in Revit 2019. I just tested this in 2020 and now it does not even allow the creation of a system, which makes a nested connector totally useless.

Hmmm.. So enough people complained (Myself and several MEP colleagues included) that nested connectors dont work properly and they 'solve' the problem by removing the potentially very useful feature entirely... How very Autodesk.
I will continue to complain about Groups so they remove that feature too :P

So that's what they meant when they said "fixed nested connectors defaulting to internal origin." What a letdown. I thought I was going to be able to do some cool stuff with that.

Just to double check, I tested this again, and I have different results. Good news.

To be able to use a family with nested connectors (Revit 2020)

    1) The family with nested connectors must be shared
    2) To select the family in a project to start a system and see the connectors, use Tab & Click (this is new to me. It used to be that one had to hover the mouse over the family and use the Tab key to find something else. But now is this "Tab first & then click").

After those 2 steps, a family with nested connectors allows the creation of systems, and allows connection of pipe, duct, cable tray, and conduit.

Therefore, the good news is that nested connectors now work, which is an improvement over previous versions. Maybe in the process of fixing the issue that a nested connector would shift its position to the origin point of the face, they fixed other things.
