    Embedded Electrical Annotation Symbols

I'm wondering what people are doing with their Electrical annotation symbols, especially wall mounted devices. Revit OOTB content with the embedded families, sucks. One of my pet peeves is text not oriented to the sheet, or at least orthogonaly to it. It would be easy enough to do if all walls were incremental 90 degree angles on the sheet. I could even deal with 45s and 30s. It's either beyond my family making capabilities or perhaps not even possible to account for all the possible angles with an embedded annotation family.

What are people doing with these symbols?

Rob, are these "text" items necessary in the Family itself? Can they be Tags instead, leaving only the symbolic linework as the symbol? Throw up a screenshot or example.

There are a lot of symbols that are just a rectangle or other shape with text inside. It would be very easy to tag the device. I'm running into a bit of resistance, though. The eletrical guys don't want to have to insert the devices AND then have to tag them.

There is an option for tag on placement. Would that address the issue?

Good idea but not really, as we have separate modeling views for placing the devices. Because of the nature of these families, the device geometry is not shown on the annotated views.

Tag all Not Tagged. That, with filters, works like a champ.

If they already use a bare rectangle shape with text in it, the hardest battle is already won.

What's sucked my soul out is the folks who can't let go of the 40 year old duplex symbol. LOL

Not for this situation. It's not just tagging, it's having to adjust the tag afterwards, so that the plans look like they are indicating an appropriate mounting location.

Well, i get that. But multi select and shifting them around (with leaders enabled) works wonders. I mean, i tagged (and arranged) 2200 foundation corners, with some BIG ass tags, the other day.

But i see your point. All of that is *more* than they have to do now. Hmm.

It's kind of double work. Now, AutoCAD, all they have to place is the symbol. In Revit they would have to place the device, then tag and adjust.

I'm pretty sure we will end up doing just that, but it's not going to be an easy argument to win.

Tell them to place the device and make sure its at the right elevation in the model.

Hire a High School intern to tag and adjust tags. LOL.
