    Facebased family symbol won't show.

The company I work for insists that ALL its mechanical families are made on a face based family template.
I've made a fire detection family (face based) but cannot get my generic annotation symbol to work when I place it on a wall. On floor and ceiling views it's fine. I've had a look at some electrical face based components and seen that the symbol is placed on the flat (floor) layout and shows when the family is placed on a wall.

    Any suggestions?

All MEP families should be face based IMO. Face base families are the only ones that work on linked files.

Can you post the family so we can take a look at it?

Hi there dzatto. I'll attach the file (it's at the office) tomorrow morning. I get that MEP families should be face based, but I've been allowed to use only one - their home made one and I don't have enough revit experience to be sure it's functioning properly. I also don't have enough revit experience to be sure I'm taking the correct steps for my symbol.

Okay, I've established that a "proper" Fire Protection Family Template works just fine when I put a Generic Symbol in it. Wall, ceiling or floor hosted the symbol shows up just fine. I tried it out on a "vanilla" installation of Revit. I'm not sure this is going to help much at work though.

I created seperate family for ceiling/floor vs wall face based families.
Reasoning: 3D geometry may vary. Hope this is a good way to determine when to create another family.

I was using a detail component for symbology. Lesson Learned use gen annotation for scaleability of symbols per view scale.
Originally I placed symbolgy in elevation view so essentially the floor became the wall and the elevation became the floor plan for symbol to show.

So... any words of wisdom appreciated before I go back to rebuilding these exit sign families R13 MEP

    Cheers
    Maria
