Hosting Revit Central Files on a Mac OS Server

    Hello all,

I have a client that's transitioning from Vectorworks to Revit.

Are there any issues with hosting Revit Central files on a macOS server? I know other people use NAS's which are also Unix variants

Thanks in advance for the help!

    Rick

I know there were database issues. I previewed this and got tossed out, but when I just Posted it, things worked fine.

Also, I'm a supporting member and it doesn't show up on the info displayed.

I have no experience with MacOS but if the location isn't encrypted then you will have no problems using it for our central files.

I have no experience either but have had a client make the exact same change. They had many issues with the macOS server and ended up getting a windows based version. I don't know if it was an issue with their IT not understanding how to make the connections but after putting a bunch of money attempting to make it work they realized it would have been cheaper in the long run to just get a windows server.

If you're using the Mac as a file server through an SMB connection, it should work fine. That being said, while I know it "works", I've never used it that way long-term, and don't know if there's anything "weird" that might pop up at some point. But we've been using Synology (linux-based) NAS's for many years, and never an issue there (linux via SMB) - it's the same concept.

Re "supporting member" status, I don't believe RFO indicates that in the user profile. There was actually a bit of discussion about that when RFO was created - at least at the time, coming from AUGI, we were really intent on setting up the most egalitarian version of a support forums that we could. RFO has matured quite a bit since then, and maybe it would be a nice way to encourage donations. In any case, thank you for supporting RFO, and hopefully it's good enough for you to know that you did a good thing!
