    Stretchable Span Arrow

Hey guys! New here, been feeding off this forum for a while but ran into an issue I cannot debunk... I'm trying to create a stretchable span arrow to represent my wood truss framing direction. I have been able to create it by going to new>annotation symbol>generic annotation and creating the arrow from there. Well I got the arrow in and looking good but not stretchable... I've been reading a bunch of threads(see below) and for some reason I still can't figure it out. Apparently I need multiple reference planes, not reference lines, and I only have a horizontal and a vertical. I read you can copy and paste them from another family but I've had no luck trying that, I'm in Revit 2016. Here's what it looks like in the image below on plan and the second image is what it looks like in the family.

Referenced threads that kind of helped but not 100%:

    Thanks guys!

The push/pull functionallity doesnt work for annotations unless scale of view is 1:1 - you can still change its length in its instance properties.
I would suggest you should use the "Detail - Linebased" template instead

(Also...it doesnt matter if you use reflines instead of planes: I like them since you can then control where the push pull arrows are)

Annotation Symbols *can* be parameterized, but they will only be able to stretch with grips if placed at 1:1. More correctly, they WILL stretch, but you won't be able to control it due to the scaling.

Detail Components, on the other hand, are much more flexible in terms of what you are looking for. In this case, I'd suggest making the arrowheads a separate family nested within the span arrow. Plus, you can have a line-based DC, which might be a benefit here, similar to attached.

I don't detail framing, but I thought span symbols were a System family... I'd look into utilizing that first, because the detail component approach isn't tied to the model in any way.

Ahhhhhhhhh a detail component, that did the trick. Thanks! That one was stumping me. I used the detail item line based and that worked perfect.
