Now if I already have tags created and want to be able to use those, would I go into that tag family get the parameters and add them to the family I made?

Ok so I have finally created my first family. It is a very very simple platform with some tanks on it. Now I want to be able to insert it into Revit and hit the tag command and have it automatically know how I want the tag to be. Any help on this? Would it be adding a parameter?

yep, add a parameter to your family. And if you want it to schedule make it a Shared parameter. After you add the parameter to your family you then need to make a tag family for the category of your family to include that parameter. Load both in your project and tag away
