    Dimensioning repeating components

    I don't know how to set up a detail family so that the repeating component can be dimensioned.

    Here is a screenshot of the family and the project in witch it is loaded in. The stand alone component can be dimensioned with no prob, every line is set to be a week ref and acts like it. However when the same detail is used for the repeating detail that is not the case, and I can pick only the ends. I would like to dim to the center of the item. Help me understand this behavior.

    Im guessing its because the reference plane is not repeated with each detail. Add a reference line and group it with the detail and then repeat.
    Also if you are making a line based family, you may want to set the start and end ref planes to Strong Ref then you can use Align to stretch the family between two walls/lines etc.

      Hmmm, that didn't solve the problem. Still cant dim the repeating components

      Btw it's not a line based detail

        I avoid repeating details more often than not. Try this line-based version instead with customisable spacing between the (Greda) items.

          I think this is another case of those situations where Revit won't create the dimensions that we want :banghead:, such as in this other thread where Alex was commenting about Revit not dimensioning an arc inside a filled region.

            the underlying reasoning behind this, is probably that repeating detail component is a system. A system that can be changed on the go: if i want 4 items instead of 5, i can just change the value of that parameter, Revit will adjust the relative distance accordingly. Revit dimensioning is based on objects, so if an object can just disappear, the dimension chain will break.

              Thx for the family, It's much help. Would be nice to know how you asigned the parameters to the Greda_LB, the nested familyes I figured out, but the others are beyond my scope atm.

              Thx again :beer::thumbsup:
