Is it a fiber glass pool?
If not, I would use walls and floors.

I personally "fill" the pool with water leaving about 6 to 8 inches of space from top (15 - 20 cm)

              Not a mass family, please.
Masses are for mass, and it's visibility is usually off.
Generic models are perfect candidates for the rectangular water.

You make the floor with the total thickness and leaving 20 cm to the over top level ? that's right ? Do you have a picture please ?

I make an in-place family. typically i set the category to site and create an extrusion that fills the pool. I set the material to water for the extrusion. The "water" ends like I said about 20cm below the top of the pool (where the water would spill out). Sorry I have no pics right now.
