    Purging Projects

Just curious, how often do you guys purge your projects?

Do you wait until the end, or do you purge it regularly?

I only purge if the project is experiencing problems. I dont want to lose setting that might need to be used in the future.

Yep, that's what I'm afraid of. I'm not experiencing problems, I just like to keep my drawings and projects as clean as possible. No need for clutter. lol

I'm a project clean freak and purge often. It always starts with CHECK NONE though

So if in doubt, keep it. I have 750 items that can be purged right now. That just seems way out of hand to me. lol

Just make sure you don't purge system families like mullion otherwise you will have to copy and paste from new project to be able to get them back

I would. My thought is that if you don't know clearly what you are purging, don't do it. Most of my purging are old family stuff that starts to pile up as I update and rename them leaving old ones behind

I went purge crazy. I bit the bullet and purged mostly all of it, including walls, doors, and windows. It shrunk the file from 66Mb to 49Mb. lol

I would almost never purge a project I am running. If you are running the project, you should already know what is used and what isnt, and a better way of working is to simply remove items through the family browser if they are not required.

If I pickup someone elses project I will run a purge to at least see what is redundant, and I may or may not individually choose some elements to purge out.

I do however run a full purge when issuing to other consultants

If you have 750 items that can be purged, it sounds like either your template is too heavy, or you need to start using more type catalogs

                    Now you tell me.

I'm still using OOTB templates. I need to get on the ball and start creating my own template, then this probably won't happen to this extent. I also need to learn more about creating type catalogs. Something I've had on my list since ACA.

It seems like whenever I'm almost done with one project and it looks like I can start on this stuff, another project pops up. I guess it could be worse.
