How to make a surface pattern on a curtain wall system panel able to move/align?

Here is what I am trying to do: Model a curtain wall family with with a primary grid system made up of the mullions. Then bring a secondary grid system of linework in on the system panels. And then be able to move that secondary grid (linework) around and align as needed.

How I have attempted to do this: Made a curtain wall family with a new system panel where I have applied a new material to it. The material has a cross hatch surface pattern that is a "model" fill pattern type as opposed to a "drafting" type (so in theory I should be able to select and move the pattern around on the surface of the system panel).

What is happening: The secondary grid (the cross hatch pattern) is auto-centering between the mullions. I am able to tab and select the individual grids but can not move or align them within the system panel. I have placed this material on a generic wall to test and was able to move the individual grids there. Any idea why I can not move the grid around within the system panel??? Thanks for any help.

Pretty sure it can't be done as a real curtain wall panel.
    Workaround is-
    1. Create a normal system wall same specs. as your desired curtain wall ie- thickness, material (glass) and desired surface pattern (model).
    2. Draw Curtain Wall.
    3. (Easier in 3D view) Hover cursor around edge of curtain wall and TAB untill you have selected "just the panel" (not the curtain wall system family) select it then go to you wall types and change it to the glass wall you created.
    4. Now it will work as you require.

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is.

The workaround seems to have worked, thanks Mark B. I didn't realize that I could place a basic wall into the curtain wall system.

Thanks for the work-around. Wonder why you can do it with a wall but not with a system panel?
