Half block reveal with full block above

We often detail a CMU wall with a half height reveal and then start with full height block above. However, Revit still treats the block above and below the reveal as the same face, so you end up with a course of half height block right above the reveal. If you try to split face so that you can paint the CMU above as a separately align-able material you get an error because your split face is on an edge. If you split and paint prior to placing your reveal, you get the same error when you place and align the reveal.

The closest I have gotten to an acceptable answer is to play games with stacked walls at each reveal, or a "finish" wall that is coincident and joined. Both kludges of epic proportions I think. So crossed fingers that someone has found a better answer?

    Thanks,
    Gordon

Pretty sure different walls is the only way thats going to fly.

Stacked walls or just Splitting the wall, in the vertical direction, will both work. But i dont mind either of those tools, even though others seem to hate them.

I find the problems crop up when you have openings that cross the split

It is also frustrating because it forces one to model to Revit's many weaknesses. In theory Revit is maturing and should have fewer of these problems. Problems that where accepted when the tool was new and offices still learning. Now, at 10 years old, it is harder to tolerate and rationalize idiosycracies in a $5000 piece of software. We keep getting wizbang new stuff, but the basics are still a steaming pile at times, and the pile is just getting riper and riper.

Ah well, I was afraid that was the answer. And more than anything, it is an issue of users just forging ahead doing things "like they did last time" and not taking time to think about what they are actually trying to do. BUT, the tool should still handle this basic stuff with more grace than it does.

EDIT: And it seems like this week and last is just one "Revit can't do that" after another for this office. Sometimes you get a few weeks like that. Sometimes you go months with no major gotchas. The former are frustrating.

It goes that way here, too. But its generally when i get ticked off having to explain things, when im getting hounded about Revits minor little glitches. I should have a Blood pressure meter on my email-send button. If the BP is elevated, it wont let me send Feedback to the Factory. LOL.

I don't know. I bet if every time someone was ****** the email automatically went to Carl and interrupted some golf, things might be different.

I was just kiddin' around. I've never had the opportunity to email anyone at Adesk about anything so I didn't realize the actual format. With all of my money that they gotten over the years maybe it's time to email and say Hey Carl! Listen Up!!
