    Central File Issue

    Hi all,

We are having an issue with a central file at the miniute and I would like to get some other thoughts on what might be happening.
The project has an external team working on the file and to date we do not have Revit Server up and running so the workflow is to upload the central file to an FTP site, the external company works on the file overnoight and then uploads for us to download the next day, we replace our file, create new locals and away we go. Seems to be OK, or at least it was.
Recently we hahve been having an issue that only one person can work in the file at any one time after dowloading it. One user can create a new local, open and work. Any usetr after that CAN create a new local and OPEN the file, however when it comes to syncing, it will cause a fatal error, every time.

Any ideas what might be causeing this?

nice to read your question sir. as we will have this setup too. We're trying to outsource our project and we might experience what you're experiencing right now. hope to hear from revit masters out there.

Make sure the external company uses Detach from Central before posting the file to the FTP.
Once you download the file from FTP, it may need to be "made a Central File" again in your office.
Also make sure they Relinquish all worksets before saving a copy/detaching from Central at their location.

Make sure all users open the Central and check "create new local" each time. Sounds like only one user at your office has a "synched" local, and the others' are trying to open their locals and then STC.

Make sure ALL users are on the same/current Build and Update of Revit as well.

        Hi Cliff,

        Thanks for you reply.
Most of what you have suggested we are doing / done but there are some items I didn't think of, like build numbers.
Will check with the external company and see if we can get tot he bottom of it.

        Cheers
