    Linking Revit Files Correctly

    Hi,

A very simple question I'm sure, but how do I xref an architects revit file correctly as at the moment I'm trying to add a revit family that needs to be wall mounted but it won't let me as the architects plan is only a linked revit file. I'm not sure that I should be working straight over the original architects plan instead?

I also need to know how it is possible to lock the architects plan in place?

    Thanks.

Your better bet is to use Face Based families instead of Wall Hosted. Much more flexibility.

The proper Revit terminology is "Shared Coordinates" , not x-ref.

As suggested, use a Face-based Family instead of Wall-Hosted if you are trying to place your family onto a Linked model.

You can Pin the Linked model in place; it can still be moved, but a warning will appear as well as a "pushpin" symbol.
