Guys, don't be so pessimistic. I'm sure I have a Holy Grail lying around somewhere...
Not this family though, I too have my limits. Actually, I think this will be some heavy s**t to model. I'm thinking some Adaptive Component frame in a GM Family that can be put together into such a space frame.
It can be done, in fact I created a space frame only last week using patterned curtain wall panels and a conceptual mass. Not at the computer right now but will post tomorrow when back at work.
It's pretty rough but will give you an idea on how it can be done.

Could you create some sort of truss, then just array it? Just an idea. I'd probably never need to do something like that in my career.....ever.
Could definitely see it created using a combo of curtain wall and adaptive component....but having a model lying around? Something like that I don't think I would share...
Here is a REALLY BASIC space frame model i knocked up the other day. I was testing the Pattern Wall Panels and it seems to work out OK. You will need to create a series of adaptive components for the edges and plan the canopy before you start, but the principle is the same.
Create your adaptive component pieces
Create a conceptual mass, divide the surface and apply the components.
Load the mass into the project.
Is there a way to "flatten" (strip out of all parameters and options) the parametric family?
For example you have...
