Showing overhead lines

So I know that I found a way to show the overhead lines for an overhang in a plan. But I cannot remembe how to get I to work. I thought that it was the linework tool...but maybe I'm wrong...

What I've done in the past is go to a view where the overhang is visible. I then use detail lines that I want to represent the overhang in plan and pick the outline of the overhang and lock the lines. Then select the lines and cut (ctrl +x) from view. Go to the floor plan and paste align. If the overhang moves these lines should move as well...

It's indeed the linework tool. You need to use an underlay view which shows the overhead lines you want to see in your current plan. Select them using Linework and turn the underlay off. The edited linework lines should remain visible.

My prefered approach is to underlay a view that shows the lines, then use the Linework tool, then turn the underlay off. Like Chad's approach, if the overhang moves, the graphic in the plan moves, but without the need for locking. And once upon a time in Revit, too many relationships slowed things down. This isn't over-constraining, but every relationship adds to the processing load. Plus you don't actually add object (detail lines) to the model, you are just changing the representation of the model, which is a more "light weight" way of working.
Of course that was a rule based on much slower computers and perhaps doesn't apply as much any more, but I still like to work in a mode that focuses on "embellishing the model" rather than "drafting the view" if that makes any sense.

Chad, I doubt that the lines would move with the overhang, if copy/pasted as suggested (but have not tested)

Instead, temporarily change the cutplane of the view where you want the overhead lined to show, so the overhang becomes visible, and use the "Linework" (LW) tool. After that, just reset the cutplane, and the overhead lines will remain, and be "attached" to the overhang.

I do know that C/P does or can leave these kind of connections intact. But I don't think it works in this case.

Just to agree, I also do it the Martijn does it. Turn on an underlay, use the linework tool, turn off the underlay.
