Elevation Visibility with a Linked CAD dwg

I have a wall hosted equipment component in my revit file with a CAD floorplan dwg. There is a certain DWG file that when loaded, the equipment piece "disappears" in the elevation and only shows when your mouse toggles over it. I try other dwg files and the equipment shows in the elevation. Is this something to do with the CAD file itself? The equipment is as a generic model and visibility settings are checked.

Is the CAD file from AutoCAD Architecture? If so the ACA elements are actually 3D elements and Revit sees them as such, which can mess up your views.

Does Revit read wipeouts in DWG?
      That may be tricky.

Wipeouts do not work in Revit, at least the last time I checked.

The AutoCAD file is not a 3D file, just lines . I have tried linking other AutoCAD files and it works just fine. I found a workaround- I changed the graphic display transparency to 100% and the equipment shows.
