"Cheating" Dimensions in Revit

Hi everyone.
Been trying to find this for a while now-
I need to make the dimensions in a specific view (and only there) "LIE" BY 5%. That is- If a rooms dim is really 100 cm- I need it to say 95 cm…
But since I need to do this to a bunch of vies and a really complicated building I was hoping there is something less "manual" than Overriding Dimensions one by one.

Please help me!

There was a Twitter 'discussion' about this not to long ago. John Pierson (@60secondrevit) made a dynamo script to override dimension values.

What a terrible thing to do, and what a terrible idea. In over ten years I have never heard a single good argument for doing such a thing.

Indeed scary and not a really good idea (took me 3 years or so before I told people at the office you could actually do that). But it is possible and if you REALLY want to do it, why not make it easier on yourself at least.

Perhaps. Would love to hear one. As I said, I've heard a lot of reasons, none of them good.

Look at the link I gave you, there is a animated gif with a dynamo script on it, should be able to use that or adept it (or ask John )
Don't think there is any other way then using Dynamo for doing this in batch. But I also think the other people in this thread are right, having dimensions edited to not display there actual measurements, is scary.

I totally agree with the don't lie aspect, but there are several simple methods. I very seldom use these, and can imagine the chaos they would create if not carefully managed:

1. Override the revit dimension, by making the number a text, ie 9-1 without the dimension ticks, or some other hack like adding a period.
2. Faux dimension string, ie a annotation symbol built to look like your dimensions. We built one over on the Augi forum several years ago pre-Revit dimension override ability. I don't like using it at all anymore but you probably can search for it on Augi.
3. Use annotation lines to snap a Revit dimension. This I will do occasionally when I have no model points to snap to. I use a very faint annotation line that you can barely see on a print, only when you zoom in.
4. Similar to the faux dimension string, I built an annotation family for showing room sizes in two directions. It has stretchable extents, that you snap or even lock to a wall face or whatever. It has a label that shows the two lengths in 15-3"x18-6" format. This label is movable, so it can be positioned under the room name. It will create chaos if you lock to walls, at least my version, when later modification of walls take place. Since these are view specific annotations, it's a bit hard to manage as you can't see anything but the text. I'd probably consider adding a visibility toggle so you can see the extents used for reviewing. Don't remember if this room size idea came from this forum.

Experience has shown, however, almost every time a dimension hack is done, it will come back to haunt.
