DWG still exists in view template import categories but not in link
I am trying to remove some dwgs from my view templates. I initially thought I would remove them in the links tab but they do not appear there and I am almost certain that they do not exist in the project. Is there a way to remove them from the import categories in the view templates so avoid confusion going forward?
Thanks
Joewallace, did you manage to remove the dwg from Object Styles > Imported Objects? How did you do that? Object Styles somehow only allowed me to delete individual layers of the dwg , not the dwg object itself. The button was greyed out!
I got it removed in the end thanks to the discussion in this other thread:
Yes I recently had this same problem. DWG lines and what not still showing up somewhere in the in revit even though link was removed and purge also doesn't seem to get rid of it. I dont mean showing up in any visual aspect, but still being present in object styles.
What I ended up doing was just going into object styles and renaming it, and deleting lines 1 by 1 but the root reference remained and I just had to rename it "NUL" and be done with it. At least I got all the lines and object styles out one by one but I have no idea why or how this file seemed to get "Embedded" like an Alabama tick.
Karalon10, I totally feel your pain! Didn’t know we could rename the DWG in Object Styles though, so thanks for that! Now I’m tempted to rename one to “Whoever imported this, I know where you sit!”
Anyway, as the discussion went in the other thread, you can use Dwg Explorer to remove these imported types directly from both Object Styles VG for a clean solution (No affiliation here. It just works for me).
Yep I saw the dwg explorer option, showing it to some colleagues and will see if it is useful to throw in the toolbox. Hopefully one of those things that is needed rarely anyhow.
That is however, a plugin and not a native revit management tool.
Having said that, not the first time I have relied on a plugin to fill a gap in the revit UI.
Same here! Sometimes I wished Revit had multiple Add-Ins tabs so that my current one weren’t so cramped with tiny buttons
My only concern is when an app fills a void in Revit functionalities so well that the Autodesk team consider that problem “resolved” and never integrate a proper equivalent command in the core application. They may very well go down this route with apps like Dwg Explorer to spend time developing interoperability in Quantum …
I got the same problem and I nailed it finally. just delete the individual layers in each drawing in Manage/Object Styles/imported objects, then you can delete the DWGs by purging them in Manage/Purge Unused, Check none fist to make sure you're not going to remove all object, then select the DWGs you want to purge, hit OK, then Done!
Hope it helps!
I have noticed that with Revit 2017.2, whenever I link a .dwg detail to a project, the lineweights do not automatically change to reflect the same representation...
then open the Revit file again and it still shows the DWG in the view.
