Split Face Graphical Control?

A bit of a weird one...

I'm creating bathroom elevations and have split the internal faces of the walls to paint on areas tiling where applicable.

The problem is that I want to show my elevations in hidden line (black and white), apart from the areas of tiling, which I want to display as grey on the drawing sheet.

The doesn't seem to be any way of overriding the graphical display for your split face (area of tiling) to display as grey.

Does anyone have a work around for this?

If i understand you correctly, you want the tile pattern to read as grey, everything else as black and white. If that is the case, just change the surface pattern color for tile to display as grey. That what you're asking?

It depends what you mean by grey, and your overall graphical needs. You can get a color to display in hidden line view by applying a solid fill of the desired color to the graphics tab of the material(s) in question. You could do it with filters if you model the tile separately (which is generally more accurate, since tile has a thickness). This will mean that you can't see the tile pattern. Otherwise you might be able to do it with layered views, which would be time consuming. Your final option is to change your graphic expectations.

So the predicament is that to show areas of tiling in my bathroom, I have used "Split Face" and then the material "Paint" tool to paint on areas of tiling. It is only for illustrative purposes for bathroom fitters to see the areas of tiling in a bathroom.

Now even if I choose that paint material to be a solid Grey paint, in my hidden line view (which i require to have in order to see my 3D sanitary displayed correctly in 2D elevation), it would still display white.

Normally, you can select elements, right click, "Override Graphics In View" and control the surface pattern, colour etc.

If i go to right click on my area of tiling (which is a painted split face), Override Graphics in View the "By Category" and "By Element" options are greyed out. I cannot select them. The only option i have is "By Filter". Which i don't think really helps me in displaying my areas of tiling in solid grey.

The reason I used split face and paint, is that it's a damn sight quicker than creating a 20mm wall of tiling, laying it over my bathroom wall and editing the profile on every single wall to the require height, shape etc. I have 25+ of these to do....

You can do it with the material. On the graphics tab set the pattern to a solid (drafting) fill and select the color you want. When that is done there will be a color in hidden line on any surface with that material.

It does take a bit extra time to do initially, but long term its a lot easier to manage. Split faces are very fond of breaking.
