    Creating Ceilings from Massing?

    Here's a question that I can't seem to find an answer to. How can one create ceilings for a multi-story (62 floors) tower where every floor and ceiling will be different. Somehow one should be able to do it the same way as creating floors from the massing.

    Here is a link to a Revit file that will demonstrate what I need.

    Currently, I'm simply using a floor family, but then I cannot seem to edit the grid, add lights, etc.

    there's no "create ceiling from Face" option in revit. Conceptual Mass is for conceptual studies, area schemes etc, not for detailed building models.

    you could make walls by face, an then ceiling by "pick walls"..

      It's not accurate to say that ceilings don't ever take shapes of things that are double curved or irregular, which requires massing. For that, we use Roofs. Since all of our fixtures are face based, it works fine.

        Yes, but how could one create it off your massing form, like with massing floors? Building 62 individual ceiling is simply not convenient, lol.

        Surely, this is not the first Revit model of a high rise tower with varying shaped floors/ceilings.

          How about automatic ceiling tool in the project? It's not 'ceiling by mass', but it can greatly speed up the process of ceilings creation.

            Are your light fixtures face based? Does matter the type of construction? (roof, ceiling, wall) How do I do that?

              Mine are either Face Based (does not matter what type of item the Face is created from) or Unhosted. I use very little Ceiling Hosted content.

                FYI, you can convert your System Host Based families into Face Based Families by using the "pyRevit" App with its tool called "Convert Family to Face Host Based". If you built those families with the Extrusions locked to Reference Planes that are then locked to the System Host then it's an easier transition by simply deleting the System Host that would then be converted to an Extrusion by the tool to complete the process. Otherwise the Face it uses to Reference will be rotated in the original Y-axis. If you have nested Host based families within the Family then they too will be converted.

                I've just converted a few nested Plumbing families I had that were Wall Host based to Face Based just recently to success.
