Google "Revit macro" and you'll get 117,000 hits

Ive been researching macros and addins on and off for awhile now. I've come to the conclusion that you'll at least need to have a good understanding of how program in c# or vb BEFORE you even attempt to work with Revit. Unfortunately last time I programmed anything was in BASIC in about 1982 on a Commodore 64. Currently I'm self-paced learning the concepts of basic modern programming.
If you can at least write code in either of those mentioned languages then there is a plethora of information and examples out there, as Dave suggested, google is your friend. Jeremy Tammicks building coder blog will keep you reading for hours, if not days or weeks. Have a look in the Revit SDK samples (installed as part of Revit or available for download from autodesk) there are heaps of examples in there.

Have look at Dynamo. It could be another way to dive into macro/addins things. It depends on your goal.

Yes I'm sure I've read about people using python, but that's even more Greek to me. Google!

Boost Your BIM | Making Revit even better is probably one of the best resources for Macro coding around.
The Building Coder is good as well.
