    Material Class changes

In 2011, we used Material Class as a way of better sorting our many materials. Simple materials for SD where where set to "Design", while materials that we specify used the CSI division number and name. Materials that are only about rendering got a Render class. It worked well because you only saw as options in the dropdown what you had already assigned. This made it easy to assign the same value to a new material, and kept the liust nice and short but still very helpful in limiting the list while picking materials for use.

Well, now the dropdown under the Identity tab is full of all the extra crap that we specifically decided not to use because it is way too simplistic for our needs. AND it ONLY lists the canned stuff. If we want to use Design it isn't in the drop down list, even if I already have 10 materials that use it. It is in the Material Class sort list under the Materials tab, but nothing "user added" seems to show up in the Filter Criteria drop down.

Which is to say, something that we made work for us in 2011 is now broken beyond use is 2012. Unless there is some magic with property Sets that I don't understand yet that would allow us to see our Material Classes and not see the OOTB material classes? ANyone?

    Thanks!

We abandoned the concept of using Material Classes the moment we noticed that changing the Render Appearance AUTOMATICALLY changed the Material Class back to one of the lousy options they gave you. Since the material list searches, and we name things obsessively, its not even necessary for us. Its a great idea, in theory. LOL.

Yeah, something that helps filter a huge list by user/office established criteria = good. Something that forces a simplistic approach totally disconnected form a particular office's reality = not so good. We don't change the Render Appearance much, so it worked for us in 2011. Looks like 2012 is a total write off. So very frustrating. And I am more than a little ****** at myself for not catching this in beta. Would not have mattered one iota as far as getting it fixed, but man it is a little late for me to be figuring this out. :banghead:
