Stair Landing according to...Autodesk Associate Certification

Hello all,

I recently passed the Associate Certification for Revit 2011. The only question I consistantly missed relates to stair with landing. I'm not going to divulge sensitive test material--even the official training guide says creating a stair with landing will be on the test.

What's the trick to creating a stair with a landing?

In a U-shaped stair, L-shaped, or a straight stair?

In all these cases, I think the "trick" that makes things easier, is to prepare some reference planes, use the Stairs > Run tool, and then simply provide clicks at the intersections of those reference planes that you prepared. See illustration for two examples of this technique.

in any stair with a landing:

Use the Run tool. Click a starting point, and move cursor out some distance. On screen display will show "number of risers created/remaining". Click a second point when number of risers is desired. Then move cursor somewhere else where it makes sense to start the next run, and click to start and then end the run when the numbe rof risers is reached. Revit with automatically fill in the landing. Finish the sketch.

I did'nt have to sketch the stair at all... i just took the measurement between the (landing-to-be) and wall finish off the refplane directly.

I have some problems with the stairs. I follow the steps provided by Alfredo and Scott, but I can't see anything in 3D. What can be the cause?

Did you finish the stair sketch?

I've done the following:
1) Open new project
2) Clicked on level 1
3) Stairs->Run
4) 1click anywhere
5)2nd click on the same line
6)break
7)3rd click at a certain (small distance)
8)4th click where the risers should stop
9)Finish (green button)
10) It's visible in the plane but nothing in 3d.

In the 3d view, type VG. Turn on Stairs and Railings.
