    gross building area

o.k. i have tried looking for my answer on past posts no luck, so here goes, all i want is a simple gross area calculation for a simple minded building. i have used area calculation it wants to give me the area inside the walls, obviously not gross area, i can't find any relief in properties. this is a very good example of a program that is at times completely non intuitive. can someone please show me the error of my ways.

Look at Area Plans. View>New>Area Plan. You can use the exterior surface of the building as the boundary, and this method allows you to "sketch" or change the boundary for the area calculation.

It seems like I may be one of the few users fortunate enough to have good luck with auto generated area boundaries. [provided I'm not doing BOMA calculations.]

I assume by number you mean Area Tag. Once again see image. When you select Area Tag it will probably ask you to load one if not already loaded, it is usally found in your OOTB library folder under Annotations/Tags/Architectural/Area Tag
