Applies to: - All Verticals
New Feature / Problem:
We used to have a custom in-house stanadalone program that made our Local files for us. We're switching over to Revit's built-in Create New Local, but this only works if you use the Open dialog.
There are several ways you can "defeat" the Create New Local and end up editing the actual Central File.
- If the Central File shows up in your Recent Files screen
- If you use the "Open" recent files from the Application menu (big purple R)
- If you double-click on and rvt file from Windows Explorer
Why do you need this Feature / Why is it a Problem:
It is far too easy for someone to inadvertantly edit the Central File instead of a Local Copy. Under the current process, the burden is on the user to make sure they are NOT in the Central. The default should be to Create a New Local, no matter how the file is accessed. The "extra hoops" should have to be jumped through to open the Central directly.
The current procces works fine if you use the Open dialog, but there are too many other methods people use.
Workflow:
You should be prompted to Create New Local ANY time you open the Central file - no matter how you get there
Benefits:
More transparency to the user.
Less accidental edits in the Central.
Less locking out others.
