Another Shortcut Trick

Just stumbled on this today.

If you give "Orient to other View" a keyboard shortcut, when you type that shortcut it activates a window with all your views to orient to. Just select one.

Its a lot eaiser than navigating through that horrible little arrow (or right clicking) on the steering wheel. You don't even need the steering wheel open, just be in any 3d view.

I have looked through all the menus and i can't see anywhere to activate this window, seems to be only by shortcut, could be wrong ??

Good tip, but on larger projects I have over 1000 views. The little arrows actually save time, but on smaller projects this is a nice workflow :thumbsup:

Right-clicking on the View Cube will also bring up "Orient to View".
Unless you've disabled it, the View Cube is typically diplayed in all 3D Views

Thats true but thats a right click, go down the menu, open sub menu, find view. With a shortcut to the dialog box, you don't even move your mouse.
As my work is all residentual my view list is not 100's long and very easy to find the view I am after.

Now I get you. As long as the number of Views is manageable, that is nice to have everything in one window instead of the extra category click.
However, like Ben most of our projects has LOTS of views, in which case, the categories help narrow it down. To each his own!
Just for yuks, I counted how many Views showed up in that list. Don't even want to try the math, but I count 17 rows on each screen, and it took me 93 Page Downs to get to the bottom of the list! (This is on a small hospital - about 130,000 sq ft)

You can access this dialog through the steering wheel/navigation wheel, that seems to be the dialog that the keyboard shortcut is linked to rather than the view cube. I still find it strange they are two different commands/dialogs

I always add OV = Orient to View, and OP = Orient to Plane.

Orient to Plane defaults to the current work plane which is nice while editing sketches that are on random work planes -- I just type "O P Enter".
