Quickly switch fonts for all families

This is a repost of my post in standard rfo content forum. Someone suggested I post it here as well.

A nice trick we use in our content is the following.
We renamed a font to Revittext (you have to use a font editor)
Then all our families use this font.
This when a client want's another font in his project we just rename the new font to revittext and we are done. You could implement the same trick in the rfo-content.

Was wondering if you could recommend a good and in-expensive font editor to use for this? Been trying a bunch of different "trials" or "freewares" but have yet to find a simple piece of software that will do the trick for me - Thanks again!

We use font creator but it isn't free.

Can you not just rename the font's filename? So copy Arial.ttf and rename it revittext.ttf. Then when you want to change it to papyrus.ttf you copy papyrus.ttf and rename it revittext.ttf. This works for the system fonts, don't see why it wouldn't work here.

Its an interesting workaround... Just keep in mind that whenever you send the model somewhere else, if they dont have your special font, its defaulting back to Arial...

The font also has an internal name that you have to rename. And that can only be done with a font editor I believe.

I think you are correct Sander. TTF files are and installed font, you cant just rename it and have it work.

If you go down this route know that some people you work with might not have the correct permissions to install fonts on their computers. Aaron said that it would default back to Arial so I woulnt worry too much about it, unless you heavily modify your text width from the Arial font.

Well, that, or if you flat out dont use Arial. Then things get all kinds of Messy. We use Arial Narrow, but i believe what the program picks as a default in the event it encounters "null font" (a font TTF used in a text or label definition that doesnt exist on the system) is Arial. So if i do this on our systems, and we forget to sent "Revittext.ttf" to our consultants, or they cant install it, our models drawings will look jacked to them.

Its an AWESOME tip, and its VERY efficient. And given the non-global way Revit deals with text and labels, im very close to pulling the trigger on it in our office. Its just something to think about...

We also have a custom font we created custom symbols. That was the main reason we use it.
