    Batch edit families

Hi all i'm looking to batch edit about 200+ families.

What I want to do is open a bunch of families.
Add 2 text parameters and add a preset value in them.

    And then save the familie.

You can use the "Shared Parameters Converter" that came with the Advantage Pack for 2011, to add the parameters - Not sure you can make it add a value though....

You can use any of the Batch Family Utilities that are out there, as long as what you want to do in every family is EXACTLY the same. If its not, the journal wont be able to do it. Like Purge Unused Materials. Sigh.

I have looked at the batch upgrade utility that is on the cd. But it looks like it loads the family in a project and then saves it again.
It never opens de family editor.

RevitTV has RTV Shared Parameter Manager which allows you batch add shared parameter and values to families.

another one is FAR Designer by Cad enhancements which allow you to batch add both parameters and shared parameters

Only problem is that its only in available for Revit 2010

I was thinking about these solutions too, but FAR doesn't work with the latest build for RAC2010 anymore (at least it broke down on my system), and it's no longer supported or developed.

The one i have (that ships with revit, in North America, anyway) opens them all in the Family Editor...

EDIT: BTW, this still works great. I just had to edit the name of a subcategory in all of my lighting fixture families in 4 subfolders of the library. Did one family, copied the text out of the journal, plopped it in to the UpgradeRFA.txt file, and it was done in ten minutes. =)
