    vr / hmd / vive / oculus

    hi

sorry if this is not the correct section of the forum - please move the subject.

i wonder if some would like to share their experience use vr as a tool?
one or two years ago i was testing vr with a oculus dk2 hmd and unity3d, and it worked - well ok... but a lot has happened since then - i guess.

we consider to give a try for both sketching and presentation - with revit and sketchup, but where to start and what to buy?

    oculus rift?
    - like the size of the touch controllers
    - not room scale?

    htc vive?
    - the controllers seems big
    - larger potentiale via steam?
    - room scale any good / needed?

    unity3d
    - a gameengine, so workflow might be a bit complicated?
    - quite expensive $125 / month - although we are not selling the vr / game?
    - sketchup can also be used, i think

    enscape
    - seems quite intuitive
    - does not support sketchup

    irisvr
    - supports both revit and sketchup
    - very expensive if pro is needed, not sure if it is

a of questions - i hope some of you will share your experiences :-)

    thanks

It does in the Alpha... which means it probably will in an official future release.

      Hi greg

      it does - now :-)

i have tested enscape for some time now, and I must say, the combination revit / enscape / htc Vive work just very smooth. And now that sketchup seem to get support, it is just getting better.

But I really miss a userforum at enscape, where users can help one another, as support is very slow.

I recommend everyone to try out enscape if you have not yet.

Thank you for recommending Enscape Currently, SketchUp is in a public alpha-version stage, but it will be officially released soon, including various fixes and missing features. I'm sorry to hear that our support is too slow, we're steadily increasing our capacity in order to respond quicker. For public Enscape questions, we offer our new forum at Forum - Enscape Community Forum.

Consider also Autodesk Revit Live. It has a VR button. I got it going with a borrowed HTC Vive last weekend, but my laptop did not have the graphics power for a good framerate.

Once I try it on a better computer, I can report more.

I don't think Revit Live works on Collaboration for Revit models. I submitted the question to Autodesk.

This is true as far as I understand it. You would need to save a copy of the model locally first and then upload to LIVE. This has been mentioned as an issue and it is being investigated.
