Ha! Yeah, that guy is nuts! If I'm being formal about it, as in the Revit Hardware Recommendation posts I wrote up, I tried to consistently use a space because I know that's technically correct. But when I'm writing more informally, I generally eliminate the space... there's no reason to have it IMHO... it's just a waste of space (no pun intended).
I do have a minor nitpick with mixing up bytes with bits, such as, "I have 8 Gb of RAM", which is the equivalent of saying "I have 8 gigabits of RAM". Not because I don't know what someone really means, but only because I think it eventually confuses those less tech savvy, who will start to confuse bytes with bits.
To all the non-techie folks out there: How to have fun with IT guy! Want to push his buttons? When talking to the IT guy, always make sure to mix up bytes and bits and units, no matter how many times he corrects you. "How many gigabits of RAM should I have?"; "Is a 1 gigabyte network really worth it?"; "My CPU is only 2.4 megahertz, do I need a faster one?"
(disclaimer: I'm not responsible if he punched you in the face after he's explained it a dozen times)

He's right, that was probably the most pedantic post in TUAW history.
Another good one to really peeve your IT guy is to mix up the terminology of your Disc Drive and call it a Hard Drive. Or use your Disc Drive to hold your drink when you know they will walk by. Be sure to comment on how awesome it is that computers come with a cup holder.
Disclaimer: I take no responsibility for broken disc drives, use an empty cup.

While you're at it:
Call your IT-guy and tell him one of the following:
- I want a new screen because my mouse isn't working on this one. If he asks what's wrong, tell him you are moving your mouse all across the screen but the pointer isn't following it. (only works when you just got a new screen)
- "I have a big problem: I installed a new screensaver, but everytime I move my mouse it disappears".
- "What's keeping you! I've pushed the helpbutton 4 hours ago and still nobody showed up."
- "I can't print, every time I want to print something it says "Can't find printer". I even put the printer in front off the webcam, no success."
Well, for the best I am self-employed...Martijn de Riet
