    Laptop battery

My Dell laptop battery is dying (after 18 months - somewhat disappointing). I can get generic brand for half of the original Dell battery price. I wonder if someone already has tried those batteries. Are they worth anything, or I'll be just wasting my money? How long do they last? Thx.

I went down this road to save money but it did not work out for me. It was good for the first few weeks but soon the old battery had a longer life span then the new one. Long story short I ended up buying a new battery from Dell and have not had any problems since.

My Dell laptop doesn't even see the battery anymore....even when I changed out the battery...so it only works if there is an outlet nearby.

That's what I thought, just needed a confirmation. Thanks.

lol, I have the same with my hp. Only it does see it, and loads it. Then, when I unplug it dies on me... Has been in repair for 2 weeks now.

What is the age of your laptop?

2 years in december. But this is the third or fourth time it's in repair. Last time I EVER buy a HP. I have "great" service: every repair has been covered by them, hasn't cost me a penny. It just takes them about 4-6 weeks every time...

They should extend the warranty with the time spent by your laptop in service. Where they software or hardware problems?

All hardware. First it was a RAM module, then my power cord (which weird enough slowed my pc down as if it were 10 years old) and now this battery problem...

If I were you better find and buy a new battery there's nothing you should worry about because at end of each day you can still benefit something.
