    No, as in my my paper-maths makes it 10.5m2 - I don't follow your first post's math logic.

    Well....I get 10.5 too. All I can think is Navis is showing the area that is exposed vs the total area.

    I make it 10.5m2 like Andrew.

    SA=2 x (l x w + l x h + w x h)

    SA=2 x (500 x 500 + 500 x 5000 + 500 x 5000)
    SA=2 x 2625000
    SA=5250000 square millimeters

    1 mm2 = .000001 m2

    So 5.25 m2 is correct

    Square area is L X W....you multiplied 2L x 2W when figuring your sides.

    EDIT....:banghead: Reworking own results above and I get 10.5... grrr

    Column Area is Wrong

    HI all,

    I noticed something today when looking through my Navisworks file, the areas for the columns seems to be wrong.

    The image below show a 500mm x 500mm x 5000mm column, so by my calculation the surface area should be 10.50m2
    Single side (.5m x 5m = 2.5m2)
    4 sides (2.5m2 x 4 = 10m2)
    Top (.5 x .5 = 0.25m2)
    Base (.5 x .5 = 0.25m2)

    10 + .25 + .25 = 10.5m2

    Navisworks is telling me that the Area is half of that ie 5.25m2

    Have I missed something here? Why would this be?
