Question Revit Forum Wish List ? (Factory - Please read too)

Two questions, first one is to the Factory, and if the response to that is negative, just forget about question two - Likewise, if the response to question two is negative, just forget about question one

    Question 1:
If we made a Wish List here at RFO, would it be taken serious by The Factory ? Who do we submit the final list to ? Autodesk Feedback Community Beta team ? and what is the best time a year to do so, if the wishes should have any impact on the next release ? What kind of data do you need to evaluate the importance of each Wish List Item? (Average score?, number of votes?, percentage of members who voted?, etc.)

    Question 2:
As a member of RFO, would you contribute to a Wish List ? (Both submitting wishes and not least voting?)

If the Factory is listening, I'm all for submitting wishes and voting on them. Communication is crucial in all kinds of relationships.

At the risk of sounding bitter, I think this is an example of Einstein's insanity. The AUGI Revit wishlist has been almost utterly ignored for half a decade, I see no reason to believe we would be any more successful. If I could see even a slight change in the way Autodesk is developing Revit I would gladly change my tune, but everything I see looks just like it always has; someone in Autodesk management makes decisions with little or no regard for actual customer needs, nor much more than a passing understanding of the actual practice of making buildings. And when customers are listened to, it is a knee jerk reaction to a specific problem, not a fully thought out systems based solution. To wit Revit Server, that could be so much more, but was really just a rushed answer to ArchiCAD grabbing the headlines. Until the process changes, making a new wishlist to be ignored just seems like an exercise in frustration.

But if we do it, I vote for Site Tools that don't suck. Again.

Do you have some data to support that statement? Augi has data to support the contrary.

For AutoCAD, yes. But I think when you look at the Revit wishlist you see that very little from the wishlist is implemented, and not in a timely fashion at all. It has never been the "Here is the top 10 AUGI wishlist, and we did 7 of them THIS YEAR!" rah rah show of AutoCAD Wishlists past. Indeed, I remember long threads on AUGI complaining about the lack of action on the Revit wishlist. For what ever reason, customer input has never been a priority with Revit development. Maybe my impression, but not mine alone I am sure.

Then again, perhaps it was the lousy way AUGI managed the wishlist. As in this sillyness.

I will preface this by saying that I haven't read the AUGI Data, however, Autodesk have said numerous times that they have a number of different avenues for suggestions and feedback.
Their own surveys - Discussions in the own blogs (such as the InsidetheFactory blog) - suggestions and feedback from the alpha and beta teams, things like AUGI wishlist and other direct focus groups methods.

Simply because an item was on an AUGI wish list and made it into production does not show causality. Sadly, I think Gordon is correct on this one. Would be very happy for the factory to contradict me, but I seriously doubt that any wish list here will make the slightest difference to the development schedule and plans.

BTW, Apart from the non sucking site tools, I vote for a phase aware split tool as I have done for many years on AUGI

That's a good point. There are 4 or 5 Autodesk employees posting in these forums. Perhaps we should wait for some input from them. They always say that developers do look at wishlists. At the last annual meeting in Las Vegas, for every wishlist that was reviewed, including Revit's, there was one Autodesk employee explaining which items from the whislists they had implemented, evaluated, or were still considering. That is why I reject the statement that the Augi wishlist has been a waste of time.
