    Lightbulb The new Server.

For those who might be interested, here's some facts on the new dedicated server, to which we moved yesterday, after reaching our donation goal of 3,000 USD.

    Hosting Company: ServInt
    Data Center: Washington, DCCentos 6.x x86_64 - 64-bit version
    Intel E5645 Processor - 6 x 2.4 GHz HyperThreaded Cores
    12 MB Smart Cache
    5.86 GT/s QPI Speed
6 TB Monthly Bandwidth Transfer [1.5 TB]
    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 (Up-gradable to 8GB for only $15/month or 12GB at $30/month) [2 GB]
    500 GB Nearline SAS Storage (Up-gradable) [90GB]
$209 pr. month (including cPanel) + $100 setup fee.

The numbers in [] are specs from the previous VPS server.

As Ian mentioned here, security is one of the main reasons to move the forum to a dedicated server.
With the new hardware, we're now able to block out the most of the brute force hacking attempts, which we've kept track of since March 3rd. Since then, there's been exactly 189 hacking attempts, and 74 of those attempts originates from China. All access to the server from China have now been blocked in the Firewall settings, thus reducing the brute force attempts by ~40%. Obviously we can't block all the countries from where the hacking attempts originate, but since we have no members from China, it's a easy and effective way to reduce the risk. The remaining 60% will most likely be caught by the cPHulk Brute Force Protection which is (and have been) enabled on the server - But in this game, there's no guarantees, other than we are doing everything in our power to secure your data and privacy.

Besides the extra security, the new Dedicated server also allows RFO to grow even bigger, without causing slow page loads etc. So all in all, we're very exited about the new server, and would like to yet again say THANK YOU to all of those who've donated to make this possible!

Finally, here's the list of hacking attempts, sorted by country/attempts (only showing those with more than one attemt):
(And no, we're not about to block the United States or the Netherlands, even though it's tempting )

    CN 74
    US 33
    NL 9
    DE 6
    AR 5
    KR 5
    SA 4
    PL 4
    HK 4
    FR 3
    TH 3
    BR 3
    VN 3
    CA 3
    RU 3
    GB 2
    TR 2
    JP 2
    TW 2

Surely all nine attempts from the Netherlands were Martijn trying to hack Dan or Alex's Avatars and Custom Titles.

Does that mean that the 33 attempts from the US was Dan and Alex trying to hack Martijns account?

So, we just banned 1,336,718,015 Chinese people, because that 0.000000005535% of them has tried to hack the forum, but I can't ban 3 moderators (~25% of our moderators), just because they are moderators?

Piff... we all know that Dan dose not have the capacity to hack anything. Also... his IT guy would of blocked him in the first place.
