    Flagging Personal Messages

Is there a flag setting to confirm Personal Messages have been recieved and read ?
Call me "old school" but I really like confirmation, instead of wondering if " I " did every thing right and message has gone.
I know there is "sent items" but Cyberspace being what it is you never know.

    Hi Mark,

When you compose a new private message, under the the composition window, there should be a check-box:

"Request a read receipt for this message"

However, I do believe the receiver can choose to not accept the request.

I do appreciate how you feel, but I would suggest not using it for every PM - it just ads to a string of annoying buttons one may have to press to read a PM.

    thanks iru
Saw that check box, still don't know if it works. Think I will have to have more confidence and faith in "cyberspace" !

Mark, I share your lack of faith in the "cyber space", and always request a "read receipt" for outgoing emails.

However, you canīt really compare PMīs with emails, since the PM do not have to travel thru cyberspace and a bunch of different mail servers - If you donīt get a server error when clicking "send PM" itīs certain that the PM has been written to the DB, and just as certain that it will show in the receivers inbox the next time he/she logs into the forum. However, itīs not certain that the receiver will be be visiting the forum in the near future, and even if the receiver has "notify by email on PM" set to ON, thereīs a good chance that A: The email will get lost in cyberspace, or B: the receiver signed up with free email account that he/she only uses to activate forums etc., and therefor barely ever reads those emails...

Bottom line, donīt use PMīs for important messages - instead request a "real" email for the particular user, and communicate thru emails instead
