    Funding for RFO 2012 - 2013

    Hi All,

Since we held our fundraiser last year, RFO has seen a steady and substantial increase in members and visitors alike. So much so that our hosting service recommended (well, in fact sort of insisted), that we should upgrade to the next hosting plan to maintain a good level of service. As you will know, this upgrade took place a few days back now (bit of a bummer that we got hacked in the middle of the upgrade!!!).

We are now on the Signature VPS Shared hosting Plan which costs $89.00USD per month. Details of the plan can be found VPS Solutions | ServInt | www.servint.net

Whilst it is anticipated that this plan should be adequate for the next twelve months or so, our preference would be to have a small dedicated server rather than the shared server plans. Information on the dedicated server options can be found Managed Flex Series Dedicated Servers | ServInt | www.servint.net

One of the significant benefits of a dedicated server is that it would enable us to more easily filter out those geographical regions where most hacking originates. Over the past month or so, RFO has had dozens of hacking attempts on our servers. All of these brute force hacking attempts originate from China. Our current shared plan makes it impracticable (without a huge hit to performance) to filter out large regions such as China.

Attached is a spreadsheet showing income and costs to date and projected costs over the next twelve months.

It is our intention to commence a donation rally in the next few days with a target of $3,000 which would be sufficient funds to enable us to migrate to the dedicated server.

As with any funding drive, the greater number of people who participate the lesser the burden is on all. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed previously, hopefully lots of members also chip in this time around.

So, dig deep everyone, lets see if we can hit the target.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Mark,

Our intention is to give members a chance to comment and we will probably go live sometime tomorrow or the day after with the donate button.
