    It even has a name!

Well, it seems that we are not alone in our "situation" with profanity filters, the effect even has a name.
PLEASE note that the link DOES include NWA (Not Work Appropriate) content, so please, read it from home!

But it also is a very interesting look at just how problematic a global internet really is, and how saving one group from hearing/seeing words that offend them can actually cut off others completely. Imagine how many businesses actually get blocked from parts of the global economy because some part of their name is offenses to some other part of the world. It boggles the mind.

Edit: I made the link without including the link string, because the link string itself contains an example of the phenomenon. Just so you know.
And PLEASE, let's not actually have a discussion about the words here again. The concept can be discussed if need be, without examples.

Yeah, I rather hope we don't even start to talk about it here if it descends into silliness. But the idea that someone could get blocked from this site because someone's actual name, or firm name, or address was deemed "inappropriate" is very worrisome to me. It is something I had never really thought about before. The example of an entire town that effectively doesn't exist to anyone using Google is just amazing. And given how international we ar, I suspect the chances of that happening to use are higher than "the general population" of web sites.
