Future of the Post of The Month Poll

Just putting a question out here to gauge what others think about the Post of the Month poll.

Since the beginning of the year, mostly through Alf's hard work, we have completed 10 Post of the Month Competitions. On average we have had around 18 members vote in the polls. (Best was 31, Worst was 10).

Given that we have over 1,100 active members, it would seem on the face of it that the PotM concept is not really generating a lot of interest.

We would be keen to hear what everyone thinks about the PoTM and whether is has sufficient value to warrant the work to keep it going or not.

    Cheers,

    Ian

I thinks it's a great idea. But I'm one of the 18 that almost always votes (I'm sure I've missed one or two). That being said, it hardly seems worth the time and effort if only 18 out of 1100 people are voting. It'd be a shame to quit it, but sometimes you just have to realize the ROI just isn't there.

I have to be honest. I very rarely vote despite being on the forums for almost all 10 of those months. Sometimes I see them, but decide to not participate. Sometimes I'm just not on the forums for months at a time. However, for the Post of the Year I made the commitment to be more involved in the forum: it just took me that long. Keep it going and I think participation will increase.

I have been hosting a chat room for 3 years now. The average daily attendance is 7 users. We rarely talk Revit but when we do it's great! I've considered taking it down several times just because it's basically a little club where people gather to shoot the ****. Occasionally though, even if very rarely we're able to help someone truly in need. I think it's worth it to keep it going for those little gems that do happen. </$.02>

Maybe instead of a poll, its which posts get the most Likes? And we just announce what posts get the most likes each month?

It's difficult to actually vote on a post when it isn't helpful to you. And are the 1,100 folk really that active? I think we have a lot of lurkers...same as at AUGI..they come for the content, not to participate.

    Just FYI:

By default vB (and most other forum software) defines "Active" members as someone who have been logged in during the past 30 days... Doesn't matter if they post or not, just need to be logged in.

Dude, I miss one blogpost and everyone starts freaking out??? WTF???

Just keep them coming, if nothing else, it's a great advertisement. I don't see the problem in a few people voting (would be nice to have more though). I would like to know how many views the potm threads generate...

I think it shouldn't matter how many people vote. It's just a great way to be able to see all the best stuff around here.

hm. My reply yesterday didn't make it.

I really like the PotM voting, mostly because it leads me to information that I might not otherwise find since a lot of them are buried in threads that may or may not be directly related to what I'm looking for or would otherwise skim over.

Just let it roll like it is. The new ribbon on the front page offers a great visibility now, it will surely lead people voting.

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all of the replies.

Although I may not have framed it well, the main question is how people use the PotM. It is not just about the votes, (the votes are at one level the only quantifiable guide as to it's usefulness that we have), but comments such as cellophane's and others give us a greater understanding of how the PoTM has a wider use.

    The more comments the better.

    Cheers,

I've gotta agree that the new format is the best so far. Also the big green letters that tell you that you have 3 votes are awesome.
