    New RFO category perhaps

    Just a thought…
Would be nice to have forum section dedicated to construction, design, building components, etc., not necessarily connected with Revit software. Where we can discuss things like that insulation issue in ‘Radiant Heat’ thread, some time ago Dan had some questions about wall construction, too. A place where we can talk about architecture, building technologies, compare them, exchange experience and knowledge. We have here almost 6k (and growing) of architects, engineers, drafters, design professionals from around the world – let’s take an advantage of that and learn something more here, not just Revit. (…well, shouldn’t say ‘just Revit’. Revit is a lot, but you know what I mean).

Unless, of course, ‘Out There’ is good enough for that purpose, and RFO should be kept strictly Revit oriented.
    …just my two cents

    Nice Idea.

Lets see if there is much support for it.

I imagine our numbers would swell exponentially were we to all start offering free AEC advice, and we (should) certainly garner more interest from suppliers... both might be a good/bad thing though not necessarily in that order.

I only put the wall issue in the RAC forum because I knew it would get the most hits there. I don't think many people go to the "Out There" forum. I could be wrong.

I'd support a sub forum for such things. Not necessarily for suppliers sake, but for our own. For my wall question, I had never used a rain screen before. I've learned a lot about them since, so it definately helped me. If someone wanted to know how I created my overhead door header or something that's specific to my type of building, I think it would be a big help to the RFo community to help them out. Not necessarily "free advice", just spreading my knowledge to someone that needs it. Not unlike what happens here at RFo on a daily basis.

But, on the other hand, where do we stop it? I mean, this is a Revit community. I'd hate to see the site take a turn away from that. Not that one sub forum would do that, but you know what I mean.

Okay, babbling done. Have fun trying to decipher my ramblings.

There are many forums out there that offer AEC support, but the thing is I don’t want to go anywhere else. I like it here. I think I would be a nice addition to RFO though, but at the same time, yes, RFO should stay primary Revit Community.
Because of our international community, we have opportunity to talk about building technologies of other countries. Isn’t it interesting how they build in Egypt, Denmark, Philippines, or anywhere else? I think it is (at least for me). After all, that’s our profession, isn’t it? ...and there is no Revit without AEC, let's don't forget about that

Edit: That would be a perfect spot for threads like this as well: http://www.revitforum.org/rendering-...-bad-name.html ...and hopefully we will have more of them

I was thinking of that exact building when I first read this post.
