Renaming Materials - Only Working on Some Materials

I'm trying to do some material organization and am getting partially there but am stumped on why the Dynamo graph only works on some of my materials.

I can export all the material names & IDs to excel with no problem. In Excel I have sorted and done all my renaming, then sorted back to the original sort order from the export (by ID.) When I run the graph to import the Excel data it will work on about half of the materials but I can't figure out the rational behind what renames and what doesn't

There are some materials that I'm not renaming, mostly OOTB materials (Default Roof, Default Wall etc) but quite a few of the materials that should get renamed aren't. Do I need to exclude the materials that aren't changing or am I doing something else wrong?

If you try manually (single nodes with isolated elements) changing one of the materials that isn't playing nice - does it work?

If so - there is some form of broken logic in your graph. If not - there is some form of issue with the material!

Did you upgrade to Dynamo 1.0.0 perchance?

If so all packages, until updated, will probably fail. There's some underlying API changes (Hopefully the last major set until 2.0.0) that have broken things.

I did, but it wasn't working before that.

Looked at this again and got it to work with a little tweaking based on this post on the Dynamo forum: Topic: Change material names? | Dynamo BIM

    Excel file had 4 columns:
    Original Material Name
    Material ID
    New Material Name
    Material ID

Script really only needs the names but the ID is a good cross reference.

    Hi there,

    Q. What Dynamo package did you get "Read Excel" because mine has less functionality.

    Thanks.

Are you referring to the "Material ID" as the "Element ID" & or could it also be the "Unique ID"?

Sorry about that. You are correct: Material ID = Element ID, pulled using the Element.ID node.
