    Linked Data Source

    Hi all,

When creating timeline sequences in Navis we have used .csv files to link the project program, which works well. Recently i have been given an Asta Project file. I thought this would be pretty easy, only to discover that Navis can only link Asta Version 11-12, anything NEWER that that cant be iused? FYI, currnet Asta version is 14 (and about to be upgraded soon)

I thought it was becasue we were using Navis 2016, so i had a look in 2018 and it is the same thing! i then looked in Asta to realsie that they cant "downsave" to anything lower than 13. So that doesnt help either.

So the process would need to be, downgrade to Astas 13 file, open in Asta 13 and then downgrade again to 11-12. The issue here is that Asta licenses dont owrk like that, you only have one version of Asta installed at any given time (as i understand it). What a total PITA.

The issue with using .csv files is that it doesnt indent the program, which is really helpfull when navigating the program.

Does anyone have any other idesa's or reasoning why Autodesk are not upgrading to "collaboratively" work with updated version from other software vendors? They may as well remove the Asta link functoin, as it is pointless in its current workflow.

Arrogance? Seriously though, this isn't much of a surprise.

I've not worked with an Asta file - or Asta - but perhaps Asta (the current version) can export to format Navisworks can read? Seems (to me) that indents could easily be captured within a .csv - perhaps it's a export formatting setting? Shooting in the dark here.

Well, it seems that the solution was relatively simple (because it isn't and Autodesk solution). The company that makes Asta has created a plugin for Navis to read more recent files. A simple task of creating a folder in the Navis plugin folder and paste a .dll and all is well i the world.

if only everything could be this simple.

Sadly "We have an API/SDK" seems to be their party line whenever quizzed for not making a move on (any) wishlist item.
