Purchase from the Autodesk US website for use in Australia?? Substantial Savings??

yes, its my first post, so be gentle.

i have been using Revit in its various forms since Revit 5.0 and have only just stumbled onto this site

anyways, my point is, where i am currently working we are about to puchase a second license, looking at the Revit Architecture Visualtization Suite (Revit, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, 3ds Max Design, Navisworks) as we want to go into the 3D visulation further, as more and more clients are requesting it.

My concern is, i can buy the same software direct from AutoDesk US website, and save around $4,000 as compared to buying the same software from the usual Channels within Australia.

In todays world, where we live with no real borders, what are the legal issues or constraints associated with using US Licenced software in Australia?

please note, that $4000 saving allows for all relevant duties and taxes to be paid by buying the software from the US direct, so unless there is a real issue with the licensing aggrement i cant see any reason why not to buy it direct from Autodesk and save close to $4000 for the same software?

thanks in advance for any responses

Please refer to This thread for information regarding buying your autodesk software elsewhere. Maybe this will help point you in the right direction

Hi Scott, and welcome to the forum! And don´t feel bad about not stumbling onto this forum until now - We´ve only been here for less than 3 months

I don´t think that you can buy it in the US, but even if you could buy it, I´m certain that you won´t be able to activate it - at least that would be the case if buying/activating a US license in Europe.
This whole thing has been covered in this thread - I´d recommend that you read that, even though you probably won´t like the answers

We need more AUSTRALIANS on the forum

    Can't be done...already checked.
In theory the software is free...just download and install, it's the license you pay for!

Just an idle bit of curiosity, but how do the large multi national firms who may have offices in USA - Europe - Middle East and Asia cope with all of this? It doesn't seem feasible to me that they would be happy to pay different sets of subscription prices for seats depending on where a particular office is located.
As I say, simply idle curiosity.

I would think that if you had an office based in the USA, then you could get the USA price for all of your software, no matter where you actually run it.

Licensing is regional, technically an AU licensed software can't be used in, say, the US.
Where not big enough as an organisation, but, my very expensive accountant says you should set up a company solely to own the software, the company and then be bought and sold to anyone...no license transfer issues. Doesn't help with the regional problem though!
I guess you'd have to have at least a dozen licenses before that made sense.
