    Room Tag With Overall Dimensions

Has anyone found a good way to get the room tag to show up with overall dimensions?

If so I can't figure it out.

    Example:

    101 Room name
    15' x 16'

It´s a question that pops every now and then...

Unfourtunatly there´s no great way to deal with it, besides manually entering the dimensions. (Custom instance based parameters)

Revit is not repporting the dimensions, and even if it did, what should it repport for rectangular, u-shaped or even triangular rooms ?

Can't be done, for the exact reasons Munkholm stated.
There is a workaround though (which I use for checking minimum required floor areas in the Building Codes):

Create a Generic Fase Based Family.
Create the form needed (I have forms for triangular, rectangular, 5 corners, u- and l-shaped) in model lines and place instance parameters as a dimension.
create a tag which reads these parameters.
when needed, place this family and stretch or align these boundary lines. place the tag near the room tag and you sort of have the result you want.
    uaifestival and cganiere like this.

After reading this post I thought I saw something similar somewhere, so I checked my Internet History (very looong!) and found a post from Revit Rocks

The solution given there has its limitations but it's along the same lines as Martijn suggests

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks everyone!

Man, it's a little sad how ecstatic I am when I find little tricks like this.

    Cheers

Nothing to add save no one ever talks about OOTB Room Report feature - and yet (for me) it remains one of the few truly promising (yet so terribly underdeveloped) functions.

Like I said, hidden deep and underdeveloped, the tool could be so much more.

Here's a quick example using Dynamo.
Basically i looked for the lowest X and Y and write that to a Shared Parameters. So for non-rectangular rooms you will get the largest number.
