    Creating String Lights

    Hi!

I've been tasked with creating a nighttime rendering of a pavilion type structure that will be lit with hundreds of string lights. So I am here looking for strategy for string light mass production. I can create the light family, no problem. My problem is finding a way to array that family at even intervals along a catenary arch. Has anyone seen a light family like this anywhere? Any ideas that could make it manageable?

    Thanks for your help.

You could reverse engineer the family I posted here, to see how the array could be done.

And maybe the http://www.revitforum.org/rendering-...revitdeer.html will also provide some inspiration

I wanted to play with some AC tonight, so I was thinking of a chord to be a placeholder for your lights.
Attached, a quick mockup of what I'm thinking at.

3 clicks to put in the project then you have to place your light family on faces, they will move along. Nesting maybe?

AC chord follows the columns if they are moved, and distance between points is adjust accordingly.

the good part is that the points in the AC family could be driven by a parameter, and some math I guess. The bad part is that arrays are not available in AC families. But I know there are some workaround, should ask Zach.

There's some work left....hope it helps.

PS: first time with lights families, so no high value inside....

Thanks guys - these are incredibly helpful examples. I have never worked with Adaptive Components before so I am going to do some research on that before I get into that family. Thanks for your help, I’ll let you know how it goes from here.
