There is a temporary fix to the Viewer mode issue: It comes from a post by Tony Michniewicz at Autodesk

Thanks to everyone that has provided feedback and I apologize for this inconvenience. The good news is that we have identified the underlying cause of this problem and are taking steps to release a fix. The timeline for this fix is currently unknown so I wanted to post a workaround that should allow you to use Revit or Revit LT in the mean time.

    1. Open a Command Prompt and navigate to the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AdskLicensing\Current\helper
    2. For Revit, run the following command: AdskLicensingInstHelper.exe change -pk 829L1 -pv 2020.0.0.F -lm ""
    3. For Revit LT, run the following command: AdskLicensingInstHelper.exe change -pk 828L1 -pv 2020.0.0.F -lm ""
Launch Revit and in the Let's Get Started dialog, click the "enter a serial number" link located below the Single-user and Multi-user buttons.
    4. When the Autodesk Privacy Statement dialog is displayed, click I Agree.
    5. When the Product License Activation dialog is displayed, click Run.
Steps 1 and 2 reset the Revit licensing method to none, which results in the Let's Get Started dialog being displayed the next time Revit is launched. Steps 3 through 5 put the user into a 30 day trial and Revit will no longer run in viewer mode.

This worked for me. Just have to wait for the fix to come out but for now my Revit is fully functional, albeit in trial mode.

I should have mentioned that Tony's response comes at the end of this thread:

We got it and installed it on one station. We're gearing for an overhaul of our template, families and workflow so trying to get a jump for a "flawless" roll-out in several months.

I tried all that, but when I get to the point of entering my serial number, I go to my account management page, but the system does not show me my serial number. It tells me to sign in, but I am signed in... so I could not finish the process. Oh, well... I'll have to wait for that "official fix" that Tony has promised.

I’m betting it does but hoping it doesn’t.
As an old Microstation user, there was a feature it had that was excellent. For every ref link, or xref sort of drawing there was an option to make it selecteable or not and an option to make is snappable or not.

Revit could sorely use this feature.

I too once used Microsatan. That one feature is highly overrated

after I clicked the I have a serial number option I got to the old registration screen, with the option to run a 30 day trial OR enter my serial number. There you just do the 30 day trial.

Thank you, Robin, that is a great idea. In my case, I found the "start a trial" option in another window, not this one which doesn't show up for me anymore. When I used the "start a trial" that I see, my Revit starts a trial,... in Viewer Mode.

    ...

Update: I used the Repair option, then started Revit again. This time I was able to get to that same dialog that you show above, and I clicked on the 30 day trial button, and now I can save. This is perfect in the meantime. Thanks!

Nice, not a perfect solution, but until they have a real fix, it will have to do.

I still don't got the download in my account. Can someone upload it or maybe have a download link to it?
I really want to try out the new things this weekend.

I download the free trial now
