It also helps when naming the doors to the stair rooms. I like having the door number match the room number.

Hmm. Good points. As far as Cobie, we do not have any projects that require compliance. For documentation, we label as "Stair 1", "Stair 2", etc......there really hasn't been a need to identity the room/level where the stair resides....it is simply Stair 1 or it is not. The room SF is not important either as our area plans track SF that is meaningful to us.

But stepping back and looking at it with fresh eyes, i don't see any harm in having in having a separate room number per floor. The number of room doesn't do much as we don't schedule these rooms, or harvest any data from them. Regarding doors....we label according to floor and stair number, e.g. "4S01" is the door to Stair 1 on level 4. Having a room per floor *would* solve the issue of portions of the stair enclosure that do not stack.

Just curious what you all do for elevators? Those stack cleanly. Do you create a separate room for floor as well?

Our elevators don't get rooms (area plans deal with them) but they do get named lift 1,2 etc from DA onwards.

Safe to assume then that you use a Generic Model Element tag to identify them? Different approach than what we currently do, but that would certainly work and is worth revisiting.
